Data & API

Everything Macroscope shows is available to programs and AI agents: the MCP server and the REST API return series, observations and forecast checks as JSON with units and sources. Below: how to connect, what each tool does, and every table as CSV (UTF-8, comma-separated, decimal point). Machine-readable catalog: /data/catalog.json.

For programs and AI agents

No need to scrape pages: the same data is served by an API and an MCP server. No key or sign-up; JSON or CSV responses with units and links to primary sources.

MCP tools and API operations

The same operations are MCP tools and GET /api/v1/… requests. Start with search_locations (country code), then get_insights: the same observations as under the chart on the site.

ToolRequestWhat it does
get_market_latest/api/v1/markets/latestLatest monthly market observations. Latest published months of OECD equity indices and bond rates, Fed yields, Shiller CAPE, prices, earnings and dividends. Each measure has its own date, source, quality, same-month annual comparison and December 2022 baseline; missing endpoints are not filled and comparisons do not cross methodology breaks B. Not live quotes.
get_market_cycles/api/v1/markets/cyclesMarket drawdowns and recoveries. Precomputed falls of at least 20%: monthly OECD equities (WDI annual archive fallback) and quarterly real BIS housing prices. Peaks, troughs, depth, recovery and censored episodes. Annual sampling misses intrayear crashes; missing data are not recovery. Price episodes, not banking-crisis dates or bubble diagnoses.
list_datasets/api/v1/datasetsMarket, society, internet and cryptoasset datasets. Matched count/observations are before limit; catalog_datasets/catalog_observations describe the complete registry. Typed datasets: markets (WDI capitalisation/trading, monthly Federal Reserve H.15 yields, quarterly BIS housing, monthly OECD indices and Shiller CAPE, 164 banking episodes from IMF 2026; quoted yields are not portfolio returns), internet restrictions (Access Now STOP cases, affected territories, reporting years and unknown flags) and Freedom House expert scores; cryptoassets (Coin Metrics prices, capitalization, supply, spot volume, addresses and transactions; Federal Reserve/ECB/FCA ownership and use surveys; independent growthepie chain metrics, selected Curve/Uniswap pools from primary APIs/blockchain), religious composition, census communities, beliefs and practices, switching, migrant religion and restrictions; WVS/EVS with distinct denominators, historical Christian denominations and Muslim traditions; digital consumption (Statcounter search/AI referrals, Eurostat/CNNIC/Pew/NTIA/Cetic/Ofcom surveys, skills and AI by group, teens and parents, news and media literacy, TikTok/Snapchat DSA audiences, WeChat/QQ accounts), libraries, time use, communities, pets, COVID, software, science, food, land, climate, companies and games; education tests (PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS, PIAAC with standard errors and comparability flags); education and work (NY Fed recent-graduate unemployment, underemployment and wages, BLS monthly unemployment 25+ by attainment, Eurostat unemployment and employment by age and ISCED, OECD Education at a Glance with standard errors and relative earnings, ILOSTAT national surveys for all countries — not modelled estimates). Includes entity types, periods, licenses and primary sources. People, referrals, accounts and hours have distinct definitions; monthly and annual aggregates must not be added. Addresses are not people; volume is not net inflow; Coin Metrics uses CC BY-NC 4.0.
get_dataset/api/v1/datasets/{dataset}Dataset observations and provenance. One bounded page (up to 100 rows), original units, entity type/id, period, time basis, JSON dimensions, quality flags, primary-source URL and raw-file SHA256. Includes next-page and complete CSV links. Inequalities in dimensions.operator remain bounds, not exact observations. For cryptoassets, month_end is an end-of-month stock, calendar_month is a sum/mean per dimensions.aggregation, and last_complete_day retains each metric’s own date. dated_snapshot is a Curve reserve snapshot with source timestamp/block in dimensions. Independent growthepie data uses CC BY 4.0; selected pools are not DeFi totals and USDC/WETH are not USD. Gaps are not filled; the token selection is not the entire market. Religion datasets distinguish affiliation, belief and practice; nested census groups must not be summed, and periods and denominators are retained.
search_locations/api/v1/locationsFind a country or region. Finds countries and regions by name or code and returns the codes used by other calls.
get_insights/api/v1/insightsWhat the data shows. The main tool for "why", "what is related", "how wrong were forecasts", "where is it heading": ready observations with numbers — trend breaks and thresholds, what changed at the same time, relationships in levels and year-to-year changes, the position among countries with the same income, which milestones usually come first across countries, past UN and IMF forecast errors and the current outlook; a comparison for several countries; view_url opens the same view on the site.
get_popular_findings/api/v1/findings/popularWhat people find interesting. / Findings from the feed (two numbers on one scale and the year one overtook the other, forecast errors, records and more) with anonymous counts of visitors' "interesting / not interesting" votes: what most people find interesting, where opinions split, what is unrated; filter by country or topic; each links to the card's own page (card: /c/<slug>/, with a preview picture), its short link for social networks (short_url: /<code> of 3 signs, a 301 to the card's page in the reader's language) and the same view of the chart.
list_collections/api/v1/collectionsCollections of cards. Collections of the feed: a question, the cards that answer it in order, and a conclusion with key numbers and sources. kind=chain (each card answers the previous one's question) or build (facts from different fields meet in one conclusion); author=editorial. Each has a page (url: /s/<slug>/, the feed opened on it) and a short link (short_url). The whole of one: get_collection.
get_collection/api/v1/collections/{collection}One collection of cards. One collection by id (col:…), page slug in either language or short code: the question, the lead, the steps — the cards in order (headline, text, source, links to the card's page, short link and chart) with the notes between them — and the conclusion: title, text, key numbers (each with the card it comes from) and primary sources.
get_user_profile/api/v1/users/{handle}A person's profile. The public part of a person's profile by handle: name, handle, initials, a few words, the month they joined, the link to their page (/en/u/<handle>/), followers and following counts, their public collections (up to 20, never drafts, with status) and what they marked as important (up to 50, newest first, with their note and the card's link). Email, votes and reading are never disclosed. No key needed.
list_user_collections/api/v1/users/{handle}/collectionsA person's collections. Public collections of cards made by the person with this handle, newest first: question, kind, cards in order with their notes, the author's conclusion, the page link (/en/u/<handle>/s/<id>/) and status — published (by link and to followers), review (with the editors), approved (accepted by the editors: only these come into the general feed), rejected. Drafts are never shown. The editors' collections: list_collections. No key needed.
suggest_research/api/v1/suggestions/researchSuggest a research question. Suggest a research question or direction to the editors: what to check in the data and why, with links. Needs a personal key (Authorization: Bearer mk_…, issued in the feed's «Profile» card to an account with a handle). It goes to the editors' queue, nothing reaches the site by itself; returns the id and status new; the decision and reply: my_suggestions. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
suggest_source/api/v1/suggestions/sourceSuggest a data source. Suggest a primary data source to the editors: name, link, license, what it holds and why. Needs a personal key. Goes to the editors' queue; new sources are loaded only after the editors decide. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
submit_collection_draft/api/v1/suggestions/collectionSubmit a draft collection. A draft collection for the editors: a question, a kind (chain or build), 3 to 7 feed card ids (from get_popular_findings or /data/feed/ids.json; unknown ids are a 400), notes and a conclusion. Needs a personal key. Goes to the editors' queue; the conclusion must not claim causes the data do not show. Once the editors accept it, it becomes the author's own collection with status approved: a page under their handle (list_user_collections) and a cover in the general feed. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
my_suggestions/api/v1/suggestionsMy suggestions. The key owner's suggestions (by key, MCP and the site's profile) with their status (new, accepted, rejected) and the editors' reply. Needs a personal key.
mark_important/api/v1/importantMark as important. Mark a card or collection as important on behalf of the key's owner, with a note (up to 280 characters; calling again changes the note). The mark is public: on the person's page, in get_user_profile and in their followers' feed; it is apart from the «interesting» votes. Ids come from get_popular_findings, list_collections, list_user_collections or /data/feed/ids.json; unknown ids are a 400. Needs a personal key. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
unmark_important/api/v1/important/removeRemove an important mark. Remove the key owner's important mark from a card or collection. Needs a personal key. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
follow/api/v1/followsFollow a person. Make the key's owner follow a person by handle: their important marks, new collections and suggestions the editors accepted come into the «Following» feed, and what they mark comes a little more often in the general feed. Needs a personal key. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
unfollow/api/v1/follows/removeUnfollow. Make the key's owner stop following a person. Needs a personal key. Записи: не больше 60 в минуту с одного адреса, у аккаунта первых суток лимиты ниже; ключ заблокированного редакцией профиля — ошибка 403 blocked. / Writes: at most 60 a minute from one address, lower limits for an account in its first day; a key of a profile the editors blocked is a 403 blocked.
get_location/api/v1/locations/{location}Location profile. Key facts with sources, UN values 1950–2100, national statistics and the year from which they continue the UN series (national.un_join; national.published_decimals: decimals the source prints when fewer than two, e.g. DANE and SRS fertility «1.0»), UN-2024 check and related forecast cases.
list_indicators/api/v1/indicatorsIndicators and units. All country and world indicators with definitions, units, sources, time basis and coverage: demography and forecasts, migration, markets and valuations, bond yields, economy, consumption and poverty, food, health, time use, culture, religion and beliefs, digital, communication restrictions and internet freedom, energy, industry and waste, land, climate, science, space and technology (R&D, patents, space budgets, electric cars), education and skills (comparable tests PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS, PIAAC; scales of different studies are not mixed), education and work (unemployment, employment and earnings by attainment: NY Fed, BLS, Eurostat, OECD, ILO; attainment levels differ by source), security. Observation kinds distinguish published values, surveys and model estimates. For internet_* indicators, STOP case counts differ from Freedom House expert scores (higher = freer); assessment years denote report editions. Other entity types use list_datasets.
compare_indicators/api/v1/compareCompare two indicators across countries. Any two indicators for one year across all or chosen countries: X/Y points, Pearson and Spearman correlation, observations, years with data, a link to the all-countries view.
get_forecast_checks/api/v1/forecast-checksPast UN, IMF and Eurostat forecasts vs actual. Past UN WPP revisions (population, births, deaths, fertility, infant mortality, net migration, life expectancy, mothers' age; source=components: why the population projection missed — revised start, births, deaths, migration) and IMF WEO forecasts (growth, inflation, debt, budget balance, current account, unemployment, GDP per capita, population), and for European countries Eurostat EUROPOP projections (fertility, population, migration, life expectancy), checked against actual data; without location, a summary across countries.
get_series/api/v1/seriesTime series. Annual country and world series from list_indicators: demography and forecasts, economy, food, health, time use, culture, land, climate and technology. Published observations, surveys and model estimates retain their kind and time basis; gaps are not filled. Up to 10 locations and 6 indicators, with units and primary sources. Monthly snapshots on the annual axis use time_basis=last_published_month_in_year, with observation_periods and observation_qualities by year; the current year is not a full-year mean. Other entity types use get_dataset.
rank_countries/api/v1/countriesRank countries. Country table with sorting and filters.
list_forecast_cases/api/v1/forecastsForecast-vs-actual cases. In-depth cases of archived official projections checked against actual data: demography (including national projections of Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Peru and others), migration, US energy (EIA), forecasts of the Federal Reserve, the ECB and other central banks, the US Survey of Professional Forecasters, UK Treasury/OBR and European Commission growth forecasts (Greece, Italy), the US budget (CBO), world solar power (EIA), oil and gas prices (US EIA short-term outlooks), the US President’s budget assumptions, the Japanese government’s outlook, Russia’s budget assumptions (dollar rate, Urals oil, GDP growth, inflation); each has a section.
get_forecast_case/api/v1/forecasts/{case_id}One forecast case. Actual series, archived projections and a check of each.
get_un2024_vs_actual/api/v1/un2024-vs-actualUN 2024 vs actual births. UN medium variant vs national births for the countries whose national series matched the UN estimates in the years both exist.
get_war_births/api/v1/warsWars and births. Do births rise after a war, and where did wars make forecasts miss: every war on a country's territory since 1955 against its pre-war trend and 10 peace-time countries with the same fertility; big wars before 1946 against countries not at war; medians over all wars with a sign test; the world wars; monthly births after a war began; regions of Colombia, Mexico and Ukraine; UN projection errors in countries at war. With location: the country's war years and episodes.
get_key_findings/api/v1/findingsKey findings. Key findings computed from the data.
get_claims/api/v1/claimsSaid and done: claims against facts. Public promises, targets and predictions with a number and a deadline (heads of government, ministers, parties, laws and strategies, central banks, scientists, company heads with kind executive) beside the outcome: the verbatim quote with translation, date and primary-source link, the promised value and deadline, the official fact at the deadline (and the Macroscope series when it exists), and the outcome either way; for an event promised by a date (promise.kind event: a landing, a first flight, the start of sales) fact.happened is its date or null, with fact.delay_years. Themes: migration, demography, waste, social, economy, energy, technology (electric cars, self-driving, company products, broadband, AI), climate, science (R&D, patents, supercomputers, fusion), space. The outcome compares numbers; it does not judge the person.
get_sources/api/v1/sourcesSources. Primary sources: UN WPP, national offices, forecast archives and unified-base providers, including everyday life, culture, platforms, land and science. Country filter applies to national publications; get_series/get_dataset specify exact coverage and inputs.

Data and definitions

Freedom House expert assessment; higher scores mean more freedom, not a percentage of people or sites. Year denotes the edition, assessing June 1 of the previous year through May 31 of that year. Total is access (0–25) plus content (0–35) plus user rights (0–40). Country coverage is neither a random sample nor the entire world. History starts in 2019, when the source reversed its scale; the 2025 production process was reduced due to budget constraints. Detailed questions cover 2025 only; gaps remain missing. Communication restrictions: annual counts and classification coverage

6,066 observations · 2016-01-01 — 2025-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

Cases documented by Access Now / #KeepItOn in the reporting calendar year. Ongoing restrictions count in each year they persist, not only when they begin. Country denotes the affected location, not necessarily the imposing actor. Detection coverage varies; missing country-years are not filled with zero. Counts do not measure affected people, disconnected hours or censorship severity. Subcategories overlap. A subcategory zero means no explicit positive flags among the country-year records; unknown attributes remain in the detailed data.

Multi-country cases repeat by affected location; the world count deduplicates record_id within each year. record_id and source_row are snapshot-specific and do not link events across years. Somaliland stays a region and New Caledonia a separate territory. Source dates, duration and status are retained without correction and are not converted to disconnected hours. Platform flags denote targeted service restrictions, not the loss of all apps in a full-network shutdown.

Markets, valuations and drawdowns

OECD equities through 2026-09; Shiller CAPE through 2026-10. Every chart value carries its actual month: the last published month of the year, not a full-year average. The latest Shiller point may be provisional. Monthly series follow source publications; cutoffs vary by country. Also includes Fed yields, capitalisation, credit risk, housing and IMF banking episodes (2026 edition, coverage through 2025). WDI through 2022 remains a separate archive. High valuations do not prove a bubble; an index fall does not define a banking crisis.

Equities: latest indices and growth since 2022 · CAPE: the price of corporate earnings · Latest bond yields across countries · WDI archive: annual equity changes · When the stock market exceeds annual GDP · How listed equity capitalisation grew · Market size and trading activity · Bond yields at different maturities · Nominal yields, real yields and inflation · When short yields exceed long yields · Credit expansion and nonperforming loans · House prices after inflation

Table A1 of Laeven–Valencia WP/26/94 (May 2026), 164 rows including borderline episodes. Events, not a complete country-year panel. Nicaragua 2018, Vietnam 2022 and Sri Lanka 2023 are explicitly borderline. Some country footnote numbers conflict with the legend; those classifications remain unresolved. Angola, Ghana and Republic of Congo dates differ between Tables 1 and A1; both are retained without selecting a true date. End dates marked 5/ are capped at five years, not proven actual resolutions. January 1 encodes a year, not a known start day. US and Swiss events in 2023 do not meet the authors’ systemic-crisis criteria and are not inserted.

Data and definitions

CAPE divides price by trailing ten-year average real earnings; TR CAPE adjusts for payout changes and reinvestment. Excess CAPE yield compares inverse CAPE with a real long-term rate, not a promised return. Price is normally a daily-close monthly mean; the author interpolates earnings and dividends between quarterly or annual observations. High CAPE does not date a crash. The latest month may be incomplete. Author note: Oct price is Oct 2nd close | Sept/Oct CPI estimated | Oct GS10 is Oct 2nd value

WDI/WFE/IMF definitions accompany indicators. Capitalisation is a stock, traded value a flow, turnover a ratio; none equals portfolio return. USD amounts are nominal. Missing observations remain missing. Capitalisation/GDP is not proof of a bubble. World aggregates are from WDI, never a sum of countries. India, 2025: WDI reports USD 10.56 trillion of capitalisation, while NSE Market Pulse January 2026 reports about USD 5.3 trillion for India. The reason is unresolved. That year’s capitalisation and capitalisation/GDP are retained in the typed dataset with quality=source_discrepancy but excluded from annual charts and automatic analysis pending review.

Pew weighted adult survey responses, rounded to integer percentages; surveyed countries are not a representative sample of the world. Most observations are from 2024; US animal/nature/object spirits and afterlife are from 2023, while affiliation, importance, prayer, attendance and spirituality beyond nature use the 2023–2024 RLS. The table retains the full survey period and English response wording. Affiliation, beliefs and practice are different concepts. Do not multiply adult percentages by all-age population; 100 minus affiliation does not identify atheists. Thirteen missing cells remain missing: 12 questions not asked in Tunisia and one Bangladesh response excluded after a translation error. Canada, 2021 Census table 98-10-0353-01: weighted 25% sample estimates for people in private households, excluding collective dwellings. Religion by age and gender; totals overlap with subgroups. Christian includes its listed denominations; do not add them to the subtotal. No religion and secular perspectives is not synonymous with atheists. Nonresponse and collective-dwelling residents are not inferred as zero. Census rounding and disclosure rules apply.

Christian traditions: historical 2010 estimates

952 observations · 2010-01-01 — 2010-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

Historical all-age estimates for 2010 from Pew’s 2011 release, 232 countries/territories. Pew’s 2025 revision does not update this detailed split: do not splice into the revised Christian total series. Affiliation, not practice. Protestant includes Anglicans and independent churches; Orthodox includes Eastern and Oriental Orthodox churches. Other Christians include, among others, Latter-day Saints and Jehovah’s Witnesses under the source classification. Counts of at least 10,000 are rounded to 10,000; <1,000 and <10,000 remain bounds in the typed table only. The source states that <10,000 means 1,000–9,999, not zero. World is the sum of the five regions in the same release. Netherlands Antilles and Channel Islands are not assigned to a single present-day country. Geography follows the 2011 release; South Sudan is separate. Macroscope analysis. Pew Research Center bears no responsibility for the analyses or interpretations of the data presented here. Primary source · API

Data and definitions

Pew estimates for all ages in 2010 and 2020 from the same revised 2025 release. Harmonised census/survey religious identification, not practising believers. Unaffiliated does not mean atheist or without beliefs. Other religions include folk traditions, Sikhs, Jains, Baha’is and others. The 2026 appendix displays shares below 0.1% as <0.1%; the interactive table displays populations below 10,000 as <10,000; these are retained as bounds in dimensions.operator and omitted from exact chart points. Other counts are rounded to 10,000 and shares to 0.1 percentage point. No intervening years are filled. Affiliated is a derived subtotal of the six religious groups and must not be added to them. Regions/world overlap with countries and must not be summed. Diversity ranks describe only the seven broad groups; a larger rank means less diversity, not less freedom.

Data and definitions

England, Wales and their combined area are overlapping geographies, not the whole United Kingdom. All usual residents, voluntary question on March 21, 2021. No religion and Other religion include their nested responses; do not sum hierarchy levels. Atheist/Agnostic are explicit recorded responses, not everyone holding these beliefs. Religion not stated is distinct from No religion. Disclosure control may prevent exact reconciliation.

EVS: religiosity and beliefs, 2017–2021

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

EVS 2017, ZA7500 v5.0.0: published weighted tables, fieldwork 2017–2021. Percentages use valid answers to each question; do-not-know and refusal responses are excluded. The gweight calibration adjusts age, sex, education and region. Rounded weighted valid/missing frequencies are retained; they are neither population counts nor actual interview counts. Q17 distinguishes a religious person, a non-religious person and a convinced atheist: self-description, not affiliation. Q20 “do not know what to think” is not relabelled agnosticism. Q13a describes only respondents naming a denomination, not all adults. Great Britain excludes Northern Ireland and is retained as a region. Chart year is the fieldwork end year; the full period is retained in the table. Rounded 0.0% is not an exact zero; blank cells remain absent. Small differences are not declared significant without uncertainty estimates. Data and definitions

India, 2011 Census, all residents: broad religions and detailed Other religions and persuasions, by sex and urban/rural residence. The Appendix publishes detailed responses exceeding 100 nationally; totals and nested categories are not additive. Atheist is only a literal recorded response, not an estimate of all nonbelievers; Religion not stated remains separate. These are 2011 counts, not current estimates. Annexure Sunni/Shia figures are excluded because nearly all Muslims did not specify a denomination there; they cannot establish the full denominational distribution.

Religion of international migrants, 1990–2020

46,592 observations · 1990-01-01 — 2020-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

Pew 2024 estimates of international migrant stocks at seven dates, 1990–2020. Incoming means migrants living in a country; Outgoing means people from that country living abroad. These are not annual flows or shares of all residents. Based on international migrant data and estimates of religious composition, not a census of practising believers. Incoming and Outgoing overlap; world totals must not be added to countries. Counts are rounded to 10,000; smaller counts remain <10,000 bounds and are omitted from exact chart points. Shares use migrants in the same direction as denominator, rounded to 0.1 percentage point; 0.0% does not establish absence. Shares for 22 Incoming records with zero total are undefined and omitted. Vatican City Incoming is missing. Unaffiliated does not mean atheist. This release is not spliced with the revised 2025 all-population estimates.

Muslim traditions: adult self-identification, 2008–2012

418 observations · 2008-12-11 — 2012-02-25

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

Published weighted responses among Muslim adults aged 18+, Q31 and the published Q32 subtotal; not shares of all residents or all-age population counts. Chart year is the fieldwork end year; exact dates are in the table. Fourteen African samples date to 2008–2009 and the remaining samples to 2011–2012. Sunni/Shia self-identification differs from Pew’s 2009 ethnographic classification: “just a Muslim” is not reassigned to either. Zero is a rounded survey answer, not proof of an absent community. Ahmadiyya, Alevi, Bektashi and Aliran Kepercayaan are volunteered (VOL.) responses. Sufi affiliation is a separate question and overlaps Sunni/Shia identities; do not add it to Q31. Thailand covers only five southern provinces and is a region, never a country chart point. Chad and DR Congo samples are disproportionately urban; some countries exclude inaccessible areas. Several major Muslim populations, including India, Iran and Saudi Arabia, were not surveyed. No world total can be inferred. See the source methodology for country-specific sampling exclusions and margins of error. Macroscope analysis. New Zealand: religious communities, 2013–2023

157 observations · 2013-01-01 — 2023-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

New Zealand 2013, 2018 and 2023 censuses: self-identified religious affiliation of the usually resident population; CEN23_ECI_017, national total, all ethnicities and genders. The 28 categories include totals and nonresponse. Up to four affiliations are counted per person; communities overlap and must not be added as independent groups. Christian nfd is an unspecified Christian response, not all Christians. No religion is broader than atheism. Object to answering and Not elsewhere included remain separate. Jedi in 2013 is _U.., omitted rather than zero. Fixed random rounding applies; components need not sum exactly. Our shares use count / published Total - religious affiliation × 100, with denominators 4,242,048 (2013), 4,699,755 (2018), 4,993,923 (2023): 2013 no religion is 38.55%. The published 41.9% uses the separately retained Total stated denominator of 3,901,164. 2018/2023 missing answers were supplemented by historic census responses and imputation: a zero residual does not imply complete response. In 2023, 84.4% came from current responses, 9.2% from historical censuses, and 6.5% from imputation (rounded shares). Changes in missing-data treatment affect comparability even with a common all-resident denominator. Some detailed categories were reclassified after 2018; population change is not individual switching. Public browser table text captured on 7 October 2026; the HTTP CSV download did not complete. Data and definitions

WVS7 published tables of Joint EVS/WVS v5.0.0, 66 country/territory samples, 2017–2023. Separate EVS samples are excluded to avoid duplication. Percentages use the full weighted sample, including do-not-know, refusal and other missing responses in the denominator; this differs from EVS valid percentages. gwght retains the original national WVS weights, not population-size country weights. The weighted TOTAL is retained and is not the actual interview count. F034/Q173 distinguishes a religious person, a non-religious person and an atheist; the original WVS response does not say “convinced” although the joint harmonized heading does. Affiliation, self-description and belief are distinct questions; there is no separate agnostic category. The year is the survey reference year from the year variable, not the publication year; India is 2023. Great Britain and Northern Ireland remain separate regions. AFDC: EV charging stations and ports by US state, 2014-2025

3,060 observations · 2014-12-01 — 2025-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

AFDC Station Locator snapshot at the end of December, public and private non-residential chargers together (home chargers excluded). ev_charging_stations are locations, ev_charging_ports are ports (one car each): level1 and level2 are slow AC charging, dc_fast is DC fast charging. From 2022 temporarily unavailable ports are included. In a few AFDC rows the levels do not add up to the port total (e.g. Georgia 2016); the numbers are kept as published and flagged in quality.

EPA: range and consumption of battery-electric cars by model and model year (US)

4,824 observations · 1998-01-01 — 2027-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

One record is one EPA-tested configuration (make, model, model year, drive, motor), not sales. range_epa is the EPA label range (combined cycle) in km and miles; consumption_kwh_per_100km is electricity use including charging losses. Battery-electric cars only (BEV); plug-in hybrids are not included. EPA ≠ WLTP ≠ CLTC: Europe's and China's tests give the same car a longer range. Model year is not the calendar year.

GCAT: orbital launches by launch vehicle country, outcome and operator; payloads to orbit by owner country, 1957-2025

2,835 observations · 1957-01-01 — 2025-12-31

Primary source · API

Data and definitions

Jonathan McDowell's General Catalog (GCAT). orbital_launches by country use the launch vehicle state (LVState); dimensions.outcome is success, failure or unknown; entity_type launch_operator is the GCAT agency code (SPX — SpaceX, CALT — China's CALT, etc.), named in dimensions.name. payloads_to_orbit are payloads put into orbit by successful launches, by owner state (SatState), which is not the rocket's country. GCAT codes outside the UN country list stay as they are: SU — the Soviet Union, I-ESA — ESA, I-ELDO — ELDO, etc. An orbital launch has code O or D (deep space); suborbital flights are excluded. The current, unfinished year is not included.

Comparable international tests: PISA (OECD, 15-year-olds), TIMSS (IEA, grades 4 and 8, maths and science), PIRLS (IEA, grade 4 reading) and PIAAC (OECD, adults aged 16-65, cycles 2011-2017 and 2023). Scales of different studies are never mixed: a PISA point is not a TIMSS point. Every dataset row carries its standard error and a flag for comparability between cycles; special samples (Russia in PIAAC cycle 1 without Moscow, the delayed PIRLS 2021, low response in PISA 2022) are marked. US NAEP tests run from 1971 with NCES significance of changes; the WHO HBSC survey of students covers social media, sleep and school, without sampling errors. Methods: docs/EDUCATION.md in the repository.

Days from 16 February 2020 to 30 April 2022 with the national status "Closed due to COVID-19" (days_fully_closed) or "Partially open" (days_partially_open: some regions or grades closed), and their total. Academic breaks are not counted. One status per country and day, so "partially" ranges from one closed region to closed upper grades; it is not the share of pupils at home. Values: UNESCO "Duration of school closures by country" (2022); ISO3 codes from the daily UNESCO database (to 31 March 2022), which is also the cross-check: its days to 31 March never exceed the totals to 30 April and fall short by at most the 30 days of April.

Data and definitions

NASA/JPL CNEOS, U.S. Government sensors, API v1.2. UTC time of peak brightness. Total impact energy is an empirical estimate, not energy of a ground strike or damage. Optical energy converted from 10¹⁰ J into J. Altitude refers to peak brightness. Missing values are not zero; many fireballs are unreported, so catalogue record counts do not estimate real incidence or its trend. CNEOS does not independently verify parameters. Event-level uncertainty/provenance is limited; speeds are not used to infer new orbits or interstellar origins.

In-use total excludes separately retained waste. 1900–2015 are historical estimates; 2016–2037 are the 2020 study extrapolation, not 2026 observations or an updated forecast. Biomass is a global model estimate; irregular years are not interpolated. Dry excludes water; wet includes it using the authors’ dry-to-wet conversion assumptions. Biomass after 2017 is author extrapolation. Relative standard deviation retained in %, not a 95% interval. Crossings 2020±6 (dry) and 2037±10 (wet) are published model results sensitive to definitions and uncertainty, not precisely observed transition dates.
