Macroscope

Terms of use

You can read the feed, the charts, the data, the API and MCP without an account and without these terms. They apply when you publish: set a handle and a name, build collections, mark “Important”, write suggestions to the editors and connect agents with a key.

What you may publish

A handle, a name and a few words about yourself. Your own collections of 3–7 feed cards with notes and a conclusion. “Important” marks with a note of up to 280 characters. Suggestions to the editors: a study, a data source, a draft collection. Write your own thoughts, questions and conclusions. You may disagree with the data and with the editors, sharply too, as long as it is to the point.

What is not allowed

  • Spam, ads and links for the sake of links.
  • Insults, harassment, threats, calls to violence and putting people down for who they are.
  • Other people’s personal data: addresses, phone numbers, documents, photos without consent.
  • Pretending to be another person, an organisation or the editors of Macroscope.
  • Numbers you know are false and sources that do not say what you claim.
  • Anything that breaks the law or others’ rights, copyright included.
  • Mass accounts, robots and getting around the limits and the protection against robots.

Reports, hiding and blocking

Every collection, “Important” mark and person’s page has “Report”. The editors read the reports. They may dismiss a report, hide a collection or a note (the author sees “hidden by the editors”), reset a profile’s name and bio, or block an account. The editors may do so without a report when they see a breach of these terms. A blocked account still reads the feed but publishes nothing; its page is hidden and its agents’ keys are revoked. Every decision is logged. If you disagree with a decision, write to the editors — how is under “Contact” below.

The common feed, after editorial review

A published collection is seen by your followers and by anyone with the link. It reaches the common feed only if you suggested it and the editors checked its numbers, sources and wording. The editors may accept or reject it and reply to you; the reply shows in the “Profile” card. If you edit an accepted collection, it leaves the common feed until it is checked again.

Suggestions by agents

In the “Profile” card you can issue up to 5 personal keys for agents and programs. A key is shown once; keep it like a password and revoke it if it leaks. Whatever an agent sends with your key is sent in your name and under these terms. With a key an agent only puts suggestions in the editors’ queue and does what you can do in the feed yourself (follows, “Important”). Nothing reaches the site by itself. Keys are revoked for abuse.

Rights to your texts

Your texts stay yours: notes, the conclusions of collections, your name and bio. By publishing them you allow Macroscope to show them free of charge on the site, in the feed, in the API and MCP with your handle, until you delete them. You also allow Macroscope to quote them with your handle in its own materials, such as videos. Suggestions to the editors (ideas, sources, drafts) Macroscope may freely use in its cards and materials; crediting the author is not promised. The site’s cards, charts and data are the work of Macroscope and of the primary sources; how to cite them is on the “Data & API” page.

Deleting your profile

“Delete profile” in the “Profile” card erases everything at once: handle, name, collections, “Important” marks, follows, suggestions, keys, email and sign-in methods. Your public page and the links to your collections stop opening. The encrypted backup copies of the database disappear by themselves within 35 days. We cannot recall quotes in materials already published.

No guarantees

The numbers on the site come from open sources, each one named. They, like our calculations, can contain errors: check the primary source before making decisions. This is not financial, medical or legal advice. The site may be unavailable or change how it works. These terms may change too: a new version will appear on this page with its date.

Contact

Until the site has its own email address, write through “Suggest to the editors” in the “Profile” card: the message reaches the editors and the reply comes back there. An address will appear here after the move to the main domain.

What we keep about you is on the “Privacy” page.
