South Africa: from 4.35 to 2.73 children per woman in just 10 years
From 1987 to 1997 the number of children per woman fell faster than in any other decade since 1950. Around that period: urban share 50.1% → 54% (1987–1997); life expectancy 62.7 years → 60.5 years (1987–1997). This does not establish a cause.
