Cyprus: the IMF counts 388k fewer people than the UN
UNIMF
How many people lived in Cyprus in 2025? The IMF (April 2026) says 983k, the UN projection says 1.37M. Both are official; the gap is 28% of the UN figure. Almost all of the gap is territory: the IMF counts only the government-controlled area, the UN the whole island including the north.
