Honduras: the share of adults with obesity has overtaken the share going hungry
shares of adults and of all people, 2023
31% of adults live with obesity; 15% of people are undernourished. In 2001 it was the reverse: 21% undernourished, 15% with obesity. The lines crossed in 2006.

Undernourishment is FAO’s modelled share of all people short of dietary energy. Obesity is the share of adults 18+ with a body-mass index of 30 or more. The denominators differ; both are FAO estimates.
Blue is the card’s first number, orange the second; they share one scale. The ring marks where the lines crossed; the gap after it is shaded. The large numbers are the latest year both lines share.
- Obesity among adults aged 18+ %
15.00 (2001) → 31.00 (2023)
- Prevalence of undernourishment % of population
21.1 (2001) → 14.8 (2023)
Only years where both series are published; gaps are not filled. An overtaking counts if the new leader was behind at the start and ahead in no more than a fifth of the years before it, and it leads in the latest shared year and in at least two shared years in a row. A short dip of up to two years does not end a lead and is named; if the leader was ahead once before, that year is named too. Size thresholds pick a story and do not show that one causes the other.
Undernourishment published as «<2.5%» is a bound, not a value; such years are not counted as an overtaking. FAO year labels can stand for three-year windows.

Can hunger and obesity live in the same family?
