Bachelet in 2013: 20% of Chile’s electricity from new renewables by 2025. Wind and solar gave 38%
Michelle BacheletOctober 2013 · Michelle Bachelet's government programme 2014–2018, energy section
«We commit now to increasing the share of non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) so that by 2025, 20% of electricity injections come from clean, domestic sources.»
In 2025 wind and solar alone produced 38% of Chile's electricity; 20% was passed in 2021.
When the programme was written, wind and solar gave under 1% of generation. The 20% mark was passed in 2021, four years early.
More
A candidate for President of Chile put a share of new renewables in electricity into her programme. By the deadline wind and solar alone gave almost twice as much.
First the words: who said it, when and where, verbatim (translations are ours). Answer Yes or No, or just open the answer: the stamp is the outcome, below it what came of it. On the chart the dark line is the fact year by year up to the deadline, the pale one after it; the blue dashed line is the promised number from the year of the words to the deadline, the light band the time the promise gave; the ring on the line is when it was said, the ring in the stamp’s colour the fact in the deadline year, beside it how far it landed from the goal. The numbers on the right are the scale.

«Desde ya asumimos el compromiso de aumentar la participación de energías renovables no convencionales (ERNC), para que al año 2025 un 20% de las inyecciones de electricidad provengan de fuentes limpias y propias.» — We commit now to increasing the share of non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) so that by 2025, 20% of electricity injections come from clean, domestic sources.

- What happened exceeded
In 2025 wind and solar alone produced 38% of Chile's electricity; 20% was passed in 2021.
Quote: Michelle Bachelet’s 2014–2018 programme, chapter 2 (web.archive.org copy). Fact: Ember, the share of wind and solar in Chile’s electricity generation. Outcome: «came true» — the promised number reached by the deadline («about» within 5%), an event happened before the end of the year promised; «exceeded» — with room to spare; «nearly» — short by no more than 10%; «late» — reached, but after the deadline; «did not come true» — not reached; «came true, then undone» — reached, then reversed. The deadline is the end of the year named.
The pledge also counted small hydro, biomass and geothermal; the chart shows wind and solar only, so the full share is higher still. Solar plants in the Atacama desert kept being built under later governments.
A question for this picture
What did more for Chile’s solar power: the government’s programme or cheaper panels?
